Overview

The prototypes of various components of typical bridge types are modeled in the system for the purpose of generating graphical and tabular geometric reports that are used by the engineer or drafter at various stages during the preparation of bridge contract drawings.

The system generates drawings for the bridge layout, abutments, piers and foundations. The drawings depict projections for bridge elements that can be directly inserted into the contract documents. Annotations are intentionally kept to a minimum to allow for flexibility in the customization of the final appearance of the contract document. Tabular data such as co-ordinates of working points, bearing elevations, screed line elevations, etc. are presented in a table form which could be copied and inserted into other applications such as word processing, spread sheet or CAD applications. All graphical output could be viewed on line, printed to a printer and/or exported to files.

System Environment

Pro / Bridge - Geometry is modeled on standard MS Windows interface. Data input is via well organized dialog screens supported by graphic displays, examples and User's guide. It supports cut and paste to and from the system to other applications such as Word or Excel. Graphic files could be printed and/or exported to many file types including "dxf" type. To minimize input, data is defaulted by the system whenever possible. The flow of input is intuitive to any experienced bridge engineer.

Hardware and Operating System - Minimum Requirements

600 MHz Intel Pentium III processor or equivalent - Windows 2000, Windows XP or Window NT4.0 with service pack 6 - 64 MB of RAM (128 recommended) - 10MB of available disk space - 1024x768 screen resolution - CD-ROM drive

Feature summary:

The system functionality is briefly presented below. For more details click on the headings in the table or select item from menu bar.

Geometric Datum : Defines reference systems and assign or compute co-ordinates of points.

Alignments and Profile Control: Generates the mathematical model for the road's chainage alignment and profile control curves.

Ground Topology: Captures ground topology from an x, y, z flat file obtained from ground survey.

Road surface: Defines the 3-D geometry of road surface with uniform or variable width and superelevation..

Bridge Domain: Allows the identification and site limit for ground plate as well as alignments and roads above, on and below the bridge.

Abutments : Defines the layout and geometry of abutment walls and foundation for regular or integral abutments.

Piers :Defines the layout and dimensions of pier cap, columns and foundation

Girders :Defines the layout of girders and assign a template to girders.
Diaphragms : Defines the layout diaphragms at abutments, piers or at intermediate span location.

Deck slab and sidewalks:Defines the geometry of deck slab, sidewalk barriers for slab on girder type bridge

Screed Elevation: Used to compute screed elevations at top of deck or at sidewalks. Footing Templates : Defines the dimensions and layout of piles or caissons in typical footings used in the bridge.

Girder Templates : Defines the geometry of girders, bearing details and stirrup distribution in standard Pre-cast concrete girders.

Diaphragm Templates :Defines the geometry of support and intermediate diaphragms as well as temporary bracing for slab on concrete girder bridges.
